Eurowings Digital

From the beginning CareerTeam supported Eurowings Digital in the specific and strategic filling of the company’s management board

An airline as a digital travel companion

To withstand growing competition of online platforms, a digital mindset and a diverse and innovative range of products are crucial for travel companies. Additional services and travel- and personalized offers to the customer are becoming a growing factor for the turnover. Therefore Eurowings made the decision to face the highly competitive online market and to found a subsidiary for its digital business activities. The goal is to establish an own platform which serves as a “travel companion” and guides the customer through the whole travel chain.

Objective target of the project

Eurowings Digital aims at creating a platform that offers a convenient “end-to-end” travel experience to the customer. From the beginning CareerTeam was involved both in the personnel planning and the buildup of Eurowings Digital:

  • Consulting regarding the required specialist and executive positions
  • Consulting regarding the optimized hiring succession
  • Joint development of a recruiting strategy

Starting from the developed strategy the executive positions were the first ones to be placed, followed by the lower positions. In this context CareerTeam was responsible for hiring the Chief Sales Officer (CSO), the Head of HR and the Head of Architevture & Solution.

Search process & outcome

Chief Sales Officer (CSO)

Head of Architecture & Solution

To all open positions it was crucial that they were placed by digital natives with distinctive expertise in e-commerce. Furthermore there was a need for combining comprehension of corporate structures with a strong start-up mindset to accelerate the founding process of Eurowings Digital. This is where CareerTeam’s outstanding experience in the recruiting digital executives and its large network of experts took effect. By combining these factors the searches were successful. The location Cologne and flexible work models constitute an advantage to the candidates.

Learnings for CareerTeam

Once again it was useful to place top management positions with the goal of building up an entire department. Usually the placed candidates have a large, relevant network which often enables them to find suitable candidates for their company. Furthermore the presence of already placed top managers helps to attract further candidates for lower positions. The high level of versatility and the proposition of a highly agile work environment helped to offset possible advantages of the location Cologne and to enlarge the pool of relevant candidates.
